Writing stories on FictionPad is a straightforward process but there are some steps you’ll want follow to help readers find your works.

Note: Other people will not be able to see your story until you click the Publish button in the last step of this guide.

To create a new story:

  1. Click on the New link at the top of any page and choose New Story from the menu that appears.
    New Menu

  2. You should now be on the Cover and Settings page for your new story. In the Story Information box, type in the title and description of your story.

  3. Assign the appropriate maturity level to your story. Click the icon next to Maturity Level for details on how to pick the correct option.

  4. Press the Save Changes button to save your story information.

  5. If you have artwork for your story, click in the blue box in the Story Banner section to upload your image.
    Edit Story Banner
For more information, see creating story banners.

  6. To help readers find your story, be sure to assign one or more fandoms, genres, characters, and tags to the story. For more information about these options, see Choosing fandoms, genres, characters, and tags.

  7. To start writing your story, click on Chapters on the left side of the page.

You are now editing your story’s first chapter. If you want, enter the chapter title at the top of the page.

Type in your chapter’s text in the large box in the middle of the page. If you already wrote the chapter in a program like Microsoft Word, you can copy and paste it here.

Hint: While there is a Save button to save your progress, FictionPad will periodically save your chapter text for you as you type.

To add another chapter:

  • Press the New Chapter button in the upper-right corner above the chapter text.

To edit a previous chapter:

  • Use the Chapter # button in the upper-left corner above the chapter text.

To publish your story:

  • When done writing your story, press the Publish button in the upper-right corner of the page. You can optionally add a note when publishing a story. Readers will see this note when they first open the story and your followers will see it along with the notification that you have published something new.

If you want to make additional changes to your story later, see Updating a story for instructions
